The God Spot

Atheists are not born. I believe they are developed. People pray prayers that don’t get answered in the way they perceived they would and so they quit believing out of disappointment. A religious leader they trusted let’s them down and, in an attempt to be free of the leader, they throw their faith out as well. You know the old adage – they “throw the baby out with the bathwater.”

Actually archeology is a huge factor in indicating the existence of God and man’s need of Him. Almost, if not every, major ancient civilization excavated has revealed utensils of worship, altars and such pointing to the natural inclination of the human race to “look up” during times of difficulty for One greater than itself for help. We are “wired” to believe in a higher power.

The Bible tells us “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” The word “fear” in this instance doesn’t mean shaking in your boots. It means to have a reverence for, and awe of, Him. True leaders like George Washington and George Patton understood their need of Christ and the guiding of His Holy Spirit. Washington’s prayers are documented in his personal journal. Patton commissioned his chaplain to send 250,000 sheets of paper to the Third Army during the Nazi’s onslaught in France telling every soldier to pray strongly for good weather. These prove the power of their belief in God, and the results historically and strongly indicate the presence of a very real God who listens when we pray.

I witness so many people who are frustrated with their lives as they attempt to pilot their own destinies. There is inevitably a crash and burn. I saw a picture in my mind (I guess you could call it a vision) of a Stealth Bomber sitting on a runway once. Stealth BomberEvery inch of that amazing technology is full of wiring and computers and weapons systems, even the ability to soar over the enemy undetected. But toward the front of the aircraft is an empty cubicle. There’s nothing there but a seat. It is reserved for a pilot. With all of the potential created into the tapestry of that bomber, it will never leave the runway until the pilot takes his place and begins to bring the machine to life.

You are I have immense, immeasurable potential, but until we allow our Pilot to sit down in the cockpit of our hearts and take the controls, we will never see our true purpose fulfilled. I call that place in us the God spot. Imagine the wasteful tragedy of a Stealth never leaving the runway, rusting in the elements. No one would think that was okay. The wise King Solomon wisely declared to us:

Proverbs 3:5-6New King James Version (NKJV)
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct[a] your paths.

We were designed to be “plugged in” to the higher power source. Like a blender sitting on the counter or a power saw on a work bench, if we are never plugged in to the power, our potential will never be realized.

I encourage you, in the midst of your frustration, to give Jesus a chance. You weren’t meant to do life alone. Put your faith in Him. Let Him fill the hole in your heart. He loves you. He wants you to fulfill your destiny. My prayers are for you today.
